Before coming to the law as a second career, John worked as a teacher in various schools in most parts of Tasmania, including Hobart, Wynyard and Geeveston. John’s 20 years in education included work in primary and secondary schools, including six years as a primary school principal and a number of years in other leadership positions. During this time, John gained a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership.
John is a former student of St Virgil’s College and a past member and player of both the old scholars football and cricket clubs. He also spent a few seasons playing cricket for Castle Forbes Bay in the old Huon Cricket Association and acted as president of the Association in the late 90’s. A later, and probably ill-advised, sporting experience was stumbling through a handful of games for the mighty Myalla Football Club at Wynyard. Sporting interests these days are confined to the odd game of tennis and watching children in various codes.
John has six children aged from 21 to 13 and has learnt to be a very patient person.
